When in remission, APL Leukemia, for 2 1/2 years, should blood counts be back to where they were before I got sick? Or will they ever return to those levels? Will my energy level ever be the same as before this illness?

If you're still feeling lethargic or that your energy levels are still low, call your oncologist and ask him/her to order a blood test for you- it may be your platelets, your whites or your red blood cells that are low. After going through ALL you've already come through, you OWE it to YOURSELF to have that checked. I know it can be frustratingly unfair- why should you have to even THINK about going "back there" again, right? I can understand that completely- and so can a lot of others I know.

It's my understanding that you levels SHOULD get CLOSE to the levels that they were before you got sick, as well as your energy level too. You've been so patient through it all thus far- just hang in there a little longer; you still have more fight and life left in you, don't you?

Maybe it would be worthwhile to log onto the website for leukemia and lymphoma society (I wish I had the exact address- my b/f has A.L.L. leukemia and "didn't think it was necessary" to gain support and information from others suffering from similar issues, drives me CRAZY- but, sorry I can't furbish you with more complete info). It would allow you to address a lot of questions you may have about where you are in your recovery/remission, directly to those who can answer you best.

I seriously feel for you and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Feel free to contact me if you need a little encouragement and support- I'm not a health care professional, but I have a pretty decent grasp on what you've already gone through and I'd be happy to help in whatever capacity I can. Hang in there!
