Zometa is a bisphosphonate used to treat high blood calcium levels caused by certain cancers that have spread to the bones. It can be purchased in increments of 5 mls, so it appears to be injectable. Side effects always seem to be numerous in any medication. Here is the list of side effects for zometa: SIDE EFFECTS that may occur after treatment with this medicine include a nausea, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, heartburn, headache, dizziness, trouble sleeping, coughing, sore throat, fever, or mild swelling or redness at the injection site. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience stomach pain; loss of appetite; weight loss; mental/mood changes; fatigue; weakness; excess fluid in the lower legs; pain or swelling in the gums; loosening of the teeth; numbness or feeling of heaviness in the jaw; eye problems (such as sensitivity to the light, blurred vision, redness of the eye, or eye pain); bone, joint, or muscle pain; tingling sensation; or skin rash. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience chest pain, difficulty swallowing, trouble breathing, unusual bleeding or bruising, swelling of the mouth or tongue, pain on urination, blood in the urine, or increase in urinary frequency. An allergic reaction to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include itching, swelling, or severe dizziness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
